Only 30 miles away from Dalipuga is a city called Marawi. In early 2017, it was overtaken by ISIL (formerly ISIS) Muslim forces. It became the focal point of a major war between ISIL and the Philippine military dubbed The Marawi Siege. Unfortunately, many very young children in the area were recruited to become sacrificial child soldiers for ISIS at this time.
Over the next few months, many innocent lives were lost—both on the Christian side and Muslim side. Hundreds of thousands of peace-loving Muslims fled Marawi to escape the bloody war and found refuge in places like Dalipuga. Today towns and public schools in the area continue to remain over-crowded with poor refugee families and their children. One of the objectives of our school is to help with this over-crowding problem by providing quality care and education for some of these struggling refugee children, offering them fully-paid scholarships when we can.
