Light House Leadership Academy
On October 9, 1932, a military officer named Lt. Vicente Alagar, together with a detachment of constabulary men under his command, went into
hostile Muslim territory on a peace-keeping mission. Along the way, they were ambushed and massacred by a violent Muslim extremist group. Alagar was only 36 years old. He left behind his wife, Filomena,
and four small children. (A military camp called Camp Alagar, in the city of Cagayan de Oro, was established in his honor.) He also left a picturesque piece of land by the sea which is now the site of Lighthouse School of Leadership.
The youngest of their children, Dette Alagar-Pascual, was educated in the finest institutions in the Philippines and she eventually obtained her Master’s degree in Psychology. She married Raul Pascual, an engineer-turned-businessman, and together, they settled in Manila. They had seven children, the youngest being Pia Alagar-Pascual Hugo.
Albert and Pia both believe it is their God-given mandate to carry on the amazing legacy
left behind by Pia’s grandfather so that lasting peace can be attained in this embattled
part of the country. Because they have four grown children who are all US-based,
Albert and Pia plan to go back and forth between the United States and the Philippines,
while operating and overseeing the Lighthouse School of Leadership.
